Christmas Mini Album **TUTORIAL**

Looking at my poor neglected blog today, the date of my last post is Feb 18.... now it becomes clear when I remember that life as we knew it changed on Feb 22 the date of the massive Christchurch Earthquake. We had survived the September shakes and were becoming accustomed to the regular after shocks that were part of our daily life....and then Feb 22.  Now on Dec 5 I can say that we are feeling more settled after a move to the North Island. All of my craft items are still in storage as I am not blessed with my own craft room as I was in Chch. So the dining room table was where this album was completed using our gorgeous Compass Craft range of Christmas items.  This is a quick, easy and effective mini album and looks great.

 MINI CHRISTMAS ALBUM

LIST OF SUPPLIES

RRXM18 Ruby Rock-It Xmas Paper Pack
FX09 Xmas Glittered Accents
FX30 Xmas Glitter Flourish - Red
BLING88 Green
BLING57 Silver
CS13 Vermillion Chromatics Cardstock
CS59 Forest Chromatics Cardstock
FXM88 Xmas Red Ribbon
FXM57 Xmas Red Rub Ons

Choose 4 sheets of paper from the paper pack and these will be the basis of your album pages.

The pencil lines (on the photo) show how the folds are made.

Fold page in half
Fold in half again
 fold diagonally
and fold diagonally again

Repeat with each of the 4 pages.

The next step is the hardest to explain. It forms the pocket where the journalling sits.
Place double sided tape as shown on the photo
Take the left hand corner and fold up

Place tape to the underside of the pocket to hold the 'room' shape.

Repeat with all 4 pages.

Tape the pages together to make 4 'rooms' - do not tape the first and last pages together as they will have the front covers attached to them.

Place the ribbon onto the front and back of the pages before the covers are attached.
Cut two pieces of cardstock 6"x6" for the front and back covers and attach to front and back.
Decorate each room using ribbon, flourishes, bling and accents.

To help with your cutting.....
The photo area (opposite the pocket) measures 5 1/2 " x 5 1/2"
The triangle pieces on the 'floor' of the rooms measure 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" cut diagonally.
The triangle on the pocket side measures 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" cut diagonally.
The journalling tags measure 4" x 5"

Happy Crafting!

Queensland Floods

Our thoughts are with all Queenslanders during this difficult time.
As we Cantabrians know first hand, even if you are not directly hit by the event, you do feel the full extent of the trauma and worry when your community is experiencing such a traumatic time.
My friend in Sydney www.craftcandy.com.au is organising Care Packages for families that are in the Evacuation Centres.  I have made 'Thinking of You' cards and donated money so that Sharon can buy some personal items to bring some relief to these families.  A handmade card that reminds them they are not alone can help.

Fancies and Flocked See Thruz

What are they and how do I use them?
We are asked this question a lot.
Fundamentals Fancies and Bella! See Thruz are pieces of foiled or flocked acetate that you attach to cards and scrapbooking layouts to embellish your work.
Each packet has 6 sheets of acetate, all different designs!
Foil Fancies come in Gold (FNF10),  Red (FNF34) and Silver (FNF41).
Flocked Fancies come in Chocolate (FNF29), White (FNF58) and two Black designs (FNF27 and FNF36)
Bella! See Thruz come in White flocked (EA55)
With my head firmly in Christmas mode, I chose a packet (6 sheets) of Red Foil Fancies (FNF34) and made these Christmas Cards.

How do I attach them?

Cut out a frame. Position the Fancy on the back of your piece of cardstock and trace around it, using a craft knife, cut the frame 5mm smaller than the outline. Using normal sellotape attach your Fancy inside the window frame.

Cover adhesive with bling. Using liquid glue or dots attach the acetate to the card and cover the adhesive with bling.

Use bling to attach the acetate.

Use the design to hide the adhesive Using liquid glue or dots, place the adhesive behind the design so it doesn't show from the front.

What adhesive should I use?
I used Tombow Mono Aqua Liquid Glue (the blue one) or Glue Dots or Bella! Bling to attach them to my work.

Enjoy!  I am mailing out my Christmas Cards today....what a wonderful feeling to have them all done and on their way.

Banners! Banners! Banners!

I've been designing a Banner for my grandniece's 1st Birthday - a very cute duck theme and then I wanted to make a card for my daughter and because I was in 'Banner' mode I thought 'why not!' .....just shrink it down to card size!
Using Bella! Glitz scrapbooking paper Zest (code BGF80) I cut four banners with my cricut and Tie the Knot cartridge (page 65) on 2" I selected the shift function because I can mix-and-match the inner triangle and the scallop outside shape to create interest.
The font is Storybook at 1 1/4" with a shadow. The three Chromatics Cardstock colours are CS45 Pinot, CS82 Saffron and CS10 Apple and they match perfectly with Zest.
I cut the flower from the Zest paper, used a 3D mounting tape to give some dimension and added some silver Bling57.
Banners are all the rage at the moment - one would look great as a title on a scrapbook page too.....hmmm now there's another idea.

The Summerhouse range

Beautiful sunny weather and Beautiful sunny papers! Inspiring!

Have you ever wanted to use several patterned papers together but when you started to work on your LO it just didn't look right?  I have tried but I could never pull it off. I did this weekend....using The Summerhouse range and it was FUN! I didn't have to rummage through masses of supplies to find something that matched.....all the papers and embellishments co-ordinate and it makes scrapping enjoyable (and quick) again.
Here are my results.......

I have added a page to this blog called 'Tutorials'  which gives you instructions and product codes to help you reproduce this look.
